I'm going to need to see the InfoWars post on that.

No, not really, come to think of it

Witch hunts, do we ever advance away from them?

Somewhere in this house of mine is the "Security File", a folder that contains my various security qualifications. I am beginning to wonder is I should have a "Sanity File", a folder that quickly dispels if someone ever calls you "nuts", such as having the receipt for the most recent pet dentist visit.

Huh? The pet dentist is not cheap and someone who goes off and spends over $400 on a pet for dental cleaning is probably not the kind who mistreats animals, one of those "qualifiers" for being nuts.

"Oh, you are just being paranoid!" I might agree with that if not "once bitten, twice shy". The thing is that a number of years ago, animal welfare (control?) did knock on my door and wanted to see Mom's dog who I had inherited. I had been reported by some unknown perhaps because the dog was "thin". When the officer saw "Sprocket", she commented on how old she was and that apparently answered any of her questions and closed the incident though I did tell her, without being asked, the Vet I used.

It could put a whole new meaning to the phrase, "My papers are in order.".

He is pretty clearly a whacko. This is one of the exceptions listed in the 2nd amendment, which reads: "A well regulated militia being necessary for the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed unless the person is clearly a whacko. Only then is it OK for the government to confiscate his guns and forbid him to buy more."

Thank God the people of Florida have found government officials they can trust to never abuse their authority, and who will never (followed by future generation of govt officials too) make an announcement like, "People who voted for Trump are clearly insane, so under Florida's new law we can arrest all Republicans and take away whatever guns they have".

Police seize first firearms under Florida's new gun-control laws - Orlando Sentinel

Police seize first firearms under Florida's new gun-control laws

Paula McMahon
Sun Sentinel

A Broward County judge on Friday issued the state’s first order temporarily removing guns from a person under Florida’s new gun-control laws.

Four firearms and 267 rounds of ammunition were ordered removed from a 56-year-old Lighthouse Point man who was determined to be a potential risk to himself or others.

The guns and ammunition have been temporarily removed from the man under the state’s new “risk protection” law, which is also sometimes called “red flag” legislation, Lighthouse Point City Attorney Michael Cirullo confirmed.

The man was also taken to a hospital for involuntary psychiatric treatment under the state’s Baker Act. But the civil ruling removing his access to guns and ammunition was granted under the new legislation — which permits confiscating guns from people who have not been committed but are deemed a potential risk to themselves or others, according to the order signed by Broward’s Chief Judge Jack Tuter.

The man is also prohibited from trying to purchase or obtain guns or ammunition from any source.

The man told officers he “was being targeted and burglarized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and a neighbor who lives in [his] building,” the judge wrote in his order. “[He] could not describe the neighbor but stated that the neighbor [can] ‘shape shift, he can change heights and I’m not sure where he comes from’ and ‘to be honest, he looks like Osama Bin Laden.’”

He also told officers that he had to turn off the electrical breakers because “they are electrocuting me through my legs.”
You know, as a Floridian who is a firearms owner and an avid supporter of CCW and arming teachers, I'm gonna have to say that this may not be the best story to use as an argument against the new law. Perhaps you should have chosen an article that didn't include his quotes, at least, if you wanted to elicit sympathy for the "victim."

If this were a relative of mine, I would have taken away his firearms the minute he said they were electrocuting him through his legs. This guy is pretty obviously nuttier than squirrel droppings, and showing that he is not rationale. Remember, the 2nd mentions a "well-regulated" militia, meaning in good working order. Having a member of said militia suddenly lose his $4:? and deciding that his brothers-in-arms are his persecutors would not meet the definition. If he isn't certifiably off his rocker due to some sort of condition I'll eat crow, but come on - even LaPierre is going to have a hard time keeping a straight face while using this case as a rallying cry. How about we see what the next one is, or at least wait for someone that is a bit less "one wave short of a shipwreck," before we get all gung-ho about asking why this person had their rights infringed upon.

I'm not a huge fan of this new legislation as I feel that it is a band aid, but I'm not overly upset by this provision. Yes, it has the potential for abuse, but not any more so than many other laws. We depend on other humans for enforcement of all laws, which means all laws have the potential for abuse. The key is to vote honest people into positions of power, and to vote them out before they are corrupted by the power - neither of which is something that America excels at.

Again, I live in Florida. I also have family that lives near Pompano. I'd prefer not to be one of the family-members-yet-to-be-identified, when the hero of the story snaps. When a story that actually seems abusive rather than sensible comes along, I'll be vociferous in my condemnation of the abuse. I'm not, however, going to argue in favor of Mr. Wackadoodle keeping his guns while he sinks farther down the rabbit hole to Wonderland. If you're publicly displaying your insanity in a way that leaves no doubt as to your mental state in the mind of casual observers, you can't be a part of the well regulated militia. Sorry, it's for sane people - by definition.

Because, of course, dangerous lunatics confined to psychiatric institutions have 2A rights.

Default Yes ! Let's let this guy have guns !...Right?

From the article posted by the OP :

Police were called after the man turned off the main electrical breakers to the condo building in Lighthouse Point, court records show. The South Florida Sun Sentinel is not identifying the man because of his medical condition.

Officers said they saw weapons in his home after they were called to check on his welfare. They also found evidence he had “a voluminous amount of notes containing numerous references to former President Barack Obama, that he was killed in the 1980s but came back and now murders children to place their spirits into [the man’s] head, is a member of [al-Qaida], and is [the man’s] enemy,” the judge wrote in his order.

A lot of this man's delusions stems from the right wing conspiracy theory paranoid media about the FBI , Muslims and President Obama that he has been probably hearing for years now.

Take a bow you kooks !

Would it make you happier if he had notes on Trump being the Antichrist? Using the delusional ramblings of a guy who believes he's being electrocuted through his legs as the basis for an attack on the other side of the political aisle is bit juvenile, don't you think? We're all well aware that he fits the common parameters of crazy, what's the point in doubling down?

Every time a liberal fanatic jabbers this piece of hysteria, the number doubles. Won't be long before, in the liberals' mind(?), the entire world population is dead ten times over.
