And how exactly would that work? Tax dollars go into those programs, would they get a tax break for being ineligible? What about social security, would they not pay into that if you would want to keep a 13 year old from being eligible to collect social security 50 years later?
Kids aren't getting emancipated because they have caring, attentive parents. Its because there is a problem. I don't see hoe further penalizing these kids for having crappy parents (that they had no choice in), is somehow supposed to be a good thing.
Is there something wrong with the way the current system works? Why do you feel it needs to be changed?
O knew a sixteen year old who went to court to emancipated himself and it was granted. His father was dead and his mom was in a mental hospital. He was a mature young man who got Social Security from his dad as a minor. It worked out well and kept him out of the foster care system. He finished school on his own and got job by the time the SS ended a 18.
Why have you presented this as a one-size-fits-all question? It seems much more complicated than that. I'm pretty sure there is some kind of agenda behind this, although I have yet to figure out exactly what it might be.
No, a kid should not be emancipated because of a grounding or restricted cell phone use. If they are being abused or exploited in some way, that's another story.
What is your point, OP?
