I don't have kids, was just wondering if you do what schools are teaching these days and what is being printed regarding the matter. Wondering how teachers are handling that also.
Great question. All subjects maybe should be checked on if the child even has a book that covers it. I ran into some really disturbing things in my now 45 year old son's social studies book a few years ago when he was sick and his eyes were weak so I decided to read his assignment to him to keep his work up-to-date.
His book praised the Middle Eastern religions and belittled Christianity. I went straight to the school superintendent. There are some things that cannot be overlooked and accepted.
First, I don't think elementary or middle school kids or their teachers are as obsessed with the 2nd amendment as some in the adult population.
Second, I think in high school they only touch on the second amendment in history, civics or political science course. Of course it may be discussed in the classrooms after the rash of school shootings recently. Politics tend to be off limits in most high schools.
In our area, the amendments are covered in eighth-grade Civics and in high school Government courses. In eighth grade, the students debate the amendments in a series of Socratic seminars. In high school, some students choose the Second Amendment as a topic for a required research paper.

I would think the bill of rights would be important in history class but then again been a long time for me since high school.
American History today is pretty thin and it comes down to: a bunch of white guys came from Europe to murder the innocent and kind native Americans and take their land. We had a war where tea was dumped into a harbor. We had another war to free the slaves because that was bad and white people are the devil. We had another war that was pretty big and lots of people were killed and the innocent and kind Japanese people were put into camps. Barrack Hussein Obama became the first black President and he was the best ever. The end.
Of course today most kids know more about Kim Kerdashians babies favorite lip gloss than they do about American History.
