CHICAGO — University of Chicago police have released body cam video and video from a police vehicle of a shooting that injured a student who charged at an officer with a metal pipe.
The University of Chicago student has been identified as 21-year-old Charles Thomas. Thomas is facing criminal charges in connection with the shooting, including felony aggravated assault of a peace officer and two counts of felony criminal damage to property, according to Chicago police.
What an idiot. I guess he never learned that you don't bring a pipe to a gun fight...
It sounds like he will live and then he should be charged and ordered to pay for the windows he smashed and pay for the bullet that cop had to shoot him with.
I wonder how many people will jump in and say that he was only shot once in the shoulder because he was white BUT if he was black the cops would have emptied their guns on him.
I wonder if the idiot will come out and say that he was protesting something to do with Trump and the college won't press charges because they don't want to discourage other kids from lashing out with their frustrations....
The man who was shot was apparently bipolar. I've seen some of the video, and his actions were really troubling. I don't know if anyone could tell it was a pipe in person, but in the moment, I would have thought he was wielding a gun. But it's not something that anyone should clap their hands about like a child getting a birthday balloon. It's sad, it's tragic, for the family of the man who was shot, for those who witnessed it, and for anyone in law enforcement who had to confront him. It can be both justified and tragic.
Or try to grab him. I always hear about how cops risk their lives, but it seems like they refuse to take any level of risk.
