There, now do you get it?
So the joke is about shows in which the subject matter is minorities trying to figure out how to adapt to the broader society while preserving their own cultural roots?

Gee you read right between the lines, what with you simply repeating my response nearly word-for-word. I won't ever try sneaking anything by you ever again, you're just too clever.

The work is cyclical because no show tapes 12 months a year. I'm sorry you don't know that. If you'd seen a TV show before you would.

I'm from another planet and trying to figure out what you think the joke is if the line is only about Roseanne reassuring Dan he can go back to sleep.

You were the one who announced you used to write for TV comedies.

Yes, which is why I understand what the writers intended with the joke and am not assigning malicious intent where there was none.

Oh I don't think it was malicious intent. No, not at all. I believe they were talking to their core audience.

So the joke is that life in a redneck, dysfunctional, White family is just like shows about Blacks and Asian families trying to figure out how to adapt to the broader society while perceiving their own culture?

That sounds like the joke that people were tweeting about.
