Still, the only real opposition did come from Democrats.
Until Obama supported it. Then it was pretty much just Paul.

Precisely. My world view hasn't changed that much over the years, though I've gained greater understanding, and thus acceptance of, other religions and various minorities. But my relatively small shift in beliefs towards the left is dwarfed by the order of magnitude greater shift of the Republican party towards the hard right in the past decade or more.

The hard-right core of the Republicans have abandoned facts, reason, and basic human decency in their sad appeal to bigoted extremists, all to win votes. Now, we're stuck watching some of the most disgusting human beings imaginable run for office as proud Republicans - and they receive the full support of the often hate-driven, far-right voters with a zeal that can only be described as cult-like. This is a party that now worships Trump - a disgusting fraud that not one of them would have trusted with their money, house, or wife only a few years ago.

The modern Republican party has no interest in equal rights for all under the law, loves the concept of theocracy, and happily speaks out of both sides of its mouth while selling us out to whatever crooks are in office - provided they are of the "right" gender, skin color, sexual orientation, and religion. They have nothing in common with the party of Lincoln or Reagan, and it is laughable to call them "conservative" when they want to fundamentally destroy this nation.

True but the country still found Hillary even less desirable.

The republican party has really become the creepy Gilead-type misogynist party.

He would have made a good President ,only trumps lies prevented him from the WH. There were options for republicans and they choose wrong.

He never had a chance. Out of 17 Candidates he may have been around #14.

He thought more of himself then the voters did. He is a nobody.

He wouldn't have made a good President as long as he catered to illegal aliens and promoted open borders. His stand on this was almost identical to Hillary's. Of course being in Ohio, he personally knows very little to nothing of what it's like to live in a SW border state.
That stand alone was enough to lose him the nomination. Why would people vote for him if his ideals mimic those of Clinton, because he's a nice guy and has an R next to his name on the ballet box? I think not.

The Republicans have moved so far to the left that the term RINO was coined to say when someone was Republican in name only! Regular folk Republicans and Conservatives got behind Trump because he was not just another liberal parading around as a Republican...He's not really a traditional Republican either...more of a Libertarian in many ways.

His appeal is exactly what you Lefties hate about him...he isn't afraid to use the left's tactics to fight back...yet they act all appalled when he does the same things to them that they've been doing to every Republican for decades...only he does it better, hence his constant winning!

You guys will never understand him...you're all stuck in your echo chambers and only know what the MSM tells yoiu. One day if you open your eyes, you might have a thought of your own...I doubt it, but it's fun to watch you guys suffer PTSD (President Trump Stumps Democrats). I love your daily predictions of his demise! As long as you keep doing that, you'll never wise up to his simple formula for besting you guys every time. Here's a hint, watch Columbo....same tactic!
