"In a huge victory for the Trump administration’s tough talk on trade with China, the communist country has announced it will cut import tariffs on a range of consumer items including apparel, cosmetics, home appliances, and fitness products starting from July 1. The concession was announced by the State Council, equivalent to the cabinet, this week though it received little to no coverage by American news outlets who had criticized President Trump’s tactics on negotiating more fair trade policies with China."
The decision, which was announced after a state council meeting led by Chinese premier Li Keqiang, aims to further open China’s consumer market, the central government said in a statement.
For his part, President Trump has retreated from imposing tariffs on billions of dollars worth of Chinese goods because of White House discord over trade strategy and concern about harming negotiations with North Korea, according to people briefed on the administration’s deliberations. In further evidence of an easing in tensions, China and the U.S. agreed on the “broad outline” of a settlement to the ban on China’s ZTE Corp. buying American technology after alleged sanctions infringements, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Anyways....This is a good strategic move by China. They want to maintain their increasing ability to compete or own markets in areas that matter. And consumer goods for example are not where the future is. So if they can avoid being punished for stealing high end technology, and continue to gain in markets that matter such as solar panels, etc...then this is a win for them. Consumer goods will help reduce the trade imbalance a little in the short term, but its the other markets where it matters. Long term those will eventually blow us out of the water.
And I think Trumps trade team will recognize that. But who knows.

bingo- they want to buy more of our stuff to steal IP- especially higher end, so let's save some ZTE jobs....b/c they "buy so much of our stuff".....that they turn around and crib IP on and sell to Iran and NK.

Oh MSM commented on it to trash talk it. I see. LOL
Go read the Reuters commentary on it. They didn't trash talk it at all. The NYTimes article pretty much calls out the obvious. Thats not trash talking something, that is pointing out the fairly obvious.
Businessmen know how trade and commerce work. Politicians don't.
Exactly.
Like the article I posted a while ago... Trump understands how thugs work since he had to deal with many of them in the NY business climate.
None of this would be occurring with the regular professional politician.
