Interesting..

—-
Speaking at the Hay literary festival in the UK, she said that society should not see rape as a "spectacularly violent crime," suggesting that offenders should be sentenced to 200 hours' community service and perhaps an "r" tattoo on the rapist's hand, arm or cheek.
"Most rapes don't involve any injury whatsoever. We are told it's one of the most violent crimes in the world -- bull. Most rape is just lazy, just careless, just insensitive," she said, according to British press reports.
"Every time a man rolls over on his exhausted wife and insists on enjoying his conjugal right, he is raping her. It will never end up in a court of law," she added.

Greer also spoke about her rape that was committed at a party days before her 19th birthday. She had not been "angry enough" with her attacker, she said.
"I can hear feminists screaming 'you're trivialising rape' but we shouldn't live in terror of the penis. Why are we genuflecting in front of this poor little thing that needs all the help it can get," she added.

I don't see why rape sentences would be worse than violent assault sentences, at the most.

I bet a whole boat load of money that you have never been raped!

As for Greer, I'm no MD, but I'll bet that same boat load that she's showing signs of dementia. Either that or she desperately needs more attention.

apparently her "rape" was more consensual than she is letting on. personally i think rapists should get harder sentences, not lighter ones.

she went right over the heads of the posters here.

(no insults intended here this really can help, it is a parsing trick.)
Try to read her work out loud nice and slow.
Or cover the words with some card and just reveal them as you get to them.

this is not an insult it is one of many methods used to avoid traps.

Yeah...no. Rape does deserve harsher of a sentence then just a mere violent assault. I've been violently assaulted. It did not affect me nearly as much as being raped would. Its not the physical act that is the worst part of it, its the emotional scars that are worse in my opinion. And that is why the punishment should be harsh.

I think the min. sentence for a rape should be at least 7.5-10 years.

I'm sure I could violently assault you to the point of it emotionally effecting you

You just buy into the overblown notion about rape being the worst crime ever. If someone broke into to your room at night, and beat you within an inch of your life over a prolonged period, you might view violent assault a little differently.

Not all rape victims view it as ruining their life either -Germaine Greer doesn't, and for that, you imply that she has dementia. A real caring attitude you've got there.
