Interesting read--The fascinating thing is that the moderates are pushing back the hardliners..if they can do this successfully..and it's a big if..it could well signal an easing of the stranglehold the extreme right has on the Republican Party

Brief quote:

"Curbelo and Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Calif., whose Modesto-area district thrives on agriculture powered by migrant workers, have launched a petition drive that would force House votes on four immigration bills, ranging from liberal to conservative versions. Twenty-three Republicans have signed on, two shy of the number needed to succeed, assuming all Democrats jump aboard."

I gotta read this one.

Told y’all that Republicans have ALWAYS been for illegal immigrants when the record is examined. They just don’t want YOU hiring an illegal. Their wealthy pals in industry and Big Ag are a different story.

They want those illegals to keep putting downward pressure on YOUR wages to make their buddies richer.

^^^yep.

What people say and what they do are entirely different things. Politicians constantly say things they don't mean in order to try and get votes. When you look at what the republicans actually do in office, they love the cheap labor. It increases the bottom line of small businesses. They don't support an easier path to legal citizenship because that would actually make them subject to minimum wage laws and all the other safety nets a legal citizen gets to have, which is why we've been in limbo for so long on the issue. It's easier to cast them aside when their usefulness is done when they are not legal citizens. Just being honest here as a moderate pointing out the obvious.

100%. It's an illusion. Similar to D's being against war, or corporate cronyism. George W Bush was POTUS for eight years. Prior to that he was the Governor of Texas, the heart of the immigration crisis. If any NeoCon style R was going to stop illegal immigration it would logically have been Bush. Conversely, D's are not really opposed to the R's on immigration for the most part either. Other than the ultra-far left, D's don't believe we should have open borders, that our immigration policies are evil or that illegals should just be allowed to live/work in the country. It's mostly theater on both sides.

You're so sure a vote would go your way?

Demographics say otherwise..as do the polls. Americans are overwhelming for DACA even Republicans.
