Betsy DeVos heading the new commission formed to ensure safety in school, will not look at school shootings.

What will she study, "Duck and Cover?"

Quote:
DeVos made her remarks during testimony before a Senate subcommittee, where Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., asked if the commission would "look at the role of firearms as it relates to gun violence in our schools."
She answered, "That is not part of the commission's charge, per se."

Leahy shot back, "So, you're studying gun violence but not considering the role of guns."

"We are actually studying school safety and how we can ensure our students are safe at school," DeVos responded.

Leahy then asked a question at the heart of the commission's stated mission: whether an 18-year-old high school student should be able to walk into a store and "moments later come out with an AR-15-style gun and hundreds of rounds in ammunition."

DeVos didn't offer her opinion. Instead, she told Leahy that the topic was "very much a matter for debate."

I honestly don't see how in the world she is still in this position. The 3 educators (my daughters teacher, principal, and the teacher that helps her with her math) I sat in a room with yesterday going over my daughters IEP are more qualified than she is.

Leahy is a dummy. He tried to back her into a corner and Devos wasn't having any of his liberal talking point nonsense. Only phony progressives see an issue with this. The fact is Devos has been performing her job admirably when you realize the mess that was left behind by Obama and Bush.

Not as long as there is a grifter in The White House.

BAHAHAHA "Duck and cover" was just so the rescue workers could find the bodies.

Ms. DeVos' "stance" is no surprise.

Yeah, the people who championed an invasion/occupation of a country that'd done nothing to us while not focusing on those who'd attacked us were real competent.

School shootings should certainly be a concern when it comes to overall school safety but when you consider there are over 100,000 schools in the country there is a higher chance that a kid will be hit by a car on the way to school then a shooter getting in and killing kids.

There is a higher probability that a teacher will be having sex with a student then a shooter getting in.

How about kids being bullied or kids that are pushed along through the system and graduate practically illiterate. We have kids that know nothing about history but everything about their favorite celebrity.

Our schools have lots of issues and mass shootings are a huge problem but actually there are many other issues that do not get the medias attention.

For the record I think that a person should be 21 to buy a semi automatic rifle.

Exactly!!!
It's been subpar performance ever since and the the battle cry,"but so and so did it too is the primary excuse."

School shootings are a horrible occurrence but make up a very small part of the overall idea of school safety. As mentioned, a student is statistically more likely to be hit by a car in the parking lot than to be a victim in a school shooting. I'm not saying shootings need to be ignored but to focus solely, or even mostly, on them is to miss a lot more of the total picture.
