First legal decision since the recent SCOTUS decision: https://www.azcentral.com/story/news...aws/681381002/

Arizona finds in favor of Phoenix and upholds the city’s anti-discrimination ordinance. I truly believe SCOTUS wanted lower courts to flesh out the legal arguments on the boundary between non-discrimination statutes and 1st amendment claims before they tackle the question. I suspect if there is consensus among the lower courts, SCOTUS may not even take up the issue. So far, all non-discrimination statutes that include sexual orientation have withstood legal challenge and remain in full force. Love it.

SCOTUS is going to have to suck it up and make a definitive ruling on this or these cases are going to just keep coming their way. It's a no-brainer which way they'd rule. Not much difference between creating a cake or creating a wedding invitation. You're essentially creating a piece of art for a special occasion. It's compelled service vs discrimination once again. And it's pretty much activist judges ruling on these things.

These business owners are free to petition but it doesn’t mean SCOTUS will grant cert until they think the issue is ripe to hear. The lower courts have all sided with non-discrimination statutes for extremely good reasons. It is a delicate balance, but so far people have recognized the need to protect equal treatment in public markets over the unique religious and personal biases of a vendor. I do hope these vendors will come to terms with the fact that same-sex marriage is going to be an integral part of America’s cultural norm, just like interracial relationships and marriages.
