According to an article I quoted yesterday, our trade deficit is around $375 billion with China. We likely take a trade loss with other countries as well.

We have to change that. It is not a long term strategy to remain solvent.

So why pick an industry (solar panels) that require rare earth elements that you pretty much can get only from China?

I think it's more than solar panels, but I understand your point.

I guess it's the same reason Obama choose to bankrupt the coal industry and give a leg up to the solar industry with subsidies.

Was about to say that I sure remember Obama picking winners and losers as well. Wasn't an issue then I guess.

Ironic that it was paid mostly by US taxpayers... saving billions for taxpayers... win! Don't worry California requires new housing to have solar panels... so your loss isn't really a loss.... but why tell the truth right? Anti-Trumpers....

That is another way to look at it. While Trumps solar tariff will hurt the U.S> solar industry it will help the coal industry.

If I don't subsidize the coal company, why do I subsidize the solar company?

Were you complaining about this when Obama did it?

The Chinese have a long history of dumping key products like this onto the market so they can monopolize it. Furthermore the US taxpayer is effectively subsidizing Chines manufacturers with the huge amount of subsidies they receive here.
