None of the founding fathers were fond of "standing armies". See, Bernard Bailyn, The Ideological Origins of the American Revolution.

But it doesn't follow from him finding them less than effective that the average person did not have firearms or access to firearms in that era. By necessity any frontier household would have had at least one firearm for the family. Farmers have always needed firearms on the farm. These two groups alone were a large number of the population at the time. Yes they represented a serious financial burden to the average person but they were also considered necessary and routinely left via inheritance to the next generation. By 1776 multiple generations had come and gone and left on to their heirs their firearms. Going into the 19th century older firearms were routinely modified to fire as percussion firearms by their owners in order to keep them as functional tools. Poorer people had firearms, they just weren't necessarily new.
Yeah the farm would have one for the family. The towns themselves would own communal guns for their militia as well. But there was not near enough to pose a threat to the royal army. The myth that a rag tag group of citizens grabbed the gun from over the fireplace and repelled the Brits does injustice to just how much help we got from the French.

Basically the second amendment doesn’t exist because armed citizens were able to overthrow a government. It exists because the citizen militias in the war were in such a sad state that “a well regulated militia” was seen as necessary for the future.
And the army was made up of citizens. Thread fail

Made up of enlisted regulars. Which is different than citizen militias.

But credit really goes to Ben Franklin’s smoozing. Which indirectly bankrupted France and caused their own revolution.

Von Steuben getting the soldiers trained won it. France and Spains aid helped too.

Tell that to a bunch of idiots running around with just AK's in Afghanistan.

Look, a bunch of drunk colonists, kicked the crap out of the worlds most powerful army.

The Alamo brought hell down upon Santa Anna.

Just look at the war upon police going on today, with the revenge shootings of cops all over the USA, because someone at sometime felt oppressed by their kind and the resentment reeks of death.

Don't ever say it is a myth. There are instance after instance of an armed population, making the government beg for mercy.

They are too busy pushing their agenda to comprehend your point.

Uh, Santa Anna killed everyone at the Alamo.

Santa Anna was caught with his pants around his knees at San Jacinto.
