Non-profit organizations do not have to pay income tax but the law is to tax the fringe benefits given to those working for non-profit organizations, including churches.

The tax will be 21% to be paid in for 2018. That will hit Joel Olsteen where it hurts!

Maybe, maybe not. Who it will hurt is the places like museums. Example. Osteens church has a parking lot. No one pays to park so there is no benefit when Joel parks there.

In a city there is often times only paid parking. If the employee's of an art museum get some sort of parking pass, they would have to claim that.

Most benefits are already taxed. A pastor pays taxes on getting to live in a parsonage.

Should be an interesting fight.
Where does it say in the First Amendment that "religion" should not have to pay taxes to help support their community or the country? It just doesn't seem right that an 80-year-old living on $1100 a month social security may have to pay out a month's worth of income in property taxes on an old house, but the church setting on 10 acres of prime commercial property and a million dollar building pays nothing. It would seem they should be willing to pitch in to support their community's roads and schools, but, no. And they're always running money-raising events like fish fries and yard sales and standing out in front of Walmart begging for money for "missionary" trips, but pay no tax on that income.

I back any taxation on these money-grubbing leeches on society.

Surely that must be one of those “Onion” articles!! Churches can certainly afford to pay something. They skate by exclusively on the taxpayers’ dime and NEVER offer to help with things like road or sewage upkeep that benefit the public and them alike. Hopefully, this would lead them to eventual TOTAL TAXATION.

Give me a break! Either Joel Olsteen makes good bank from his "non-profit" church or he needs all these things to preach. Parking...LOL!

With his yachts and jets and endlessly-smiling mouth offering promises of “Your Best Life Now” (that’s the name of his best-selling book), Osteen was already a subject of contempt among Americans, in general.

But in the past few days he has been lambasted as being, at best, sluggish in providing emergency aid to those suffering from the disaster and, at worst, a hypocrite who cares more about people’s wealth than welfare

If they pay property taxes then the Pastor can get in front of the church on the Sunday before election day and say "Vote for ______".

This has nothing to do with property taxes either.

Do you want museums paying property taxes or aquiring new pieces?
