Trump continues to have an interesting relationship with reality and the truth....

Russia exports to Germany are 16 Billion per year.

GDP of Germany - 3.5 TRILLION dollars.

So Russia "captures" about .4% of the economy of Germany.

Oh, Germany exports MORE to Russia than Russia to Germany....

What a bunch of BS.

If we want to go to "power" or "energy", Germany gets 10% from Russia and is no way reliant on it. They can get it or substitutes from many many places.

AND, Germany supports all the sanctions against Russia.

It's truly amazing that anyone believes a word out of this guy's trap.

dont forget that the last time russia decided to put up an embargo against western europe on natural gas, and other energy sources, the europeans freaked out because it was winter and they depended on russia to supply them with the necessary gas to keep the heat on in those countries. so yes, germany and in fact much of europe IS dependent on russia for energy supplies.

Poor Angela. I can't imagine how hard it is to deal with him in such an important, meaningful, worldly setting.

She knows he's a kook but there's nothing she can do...

The irony of Trump accusing Germany of being captive to Russia, cannot be under-emphasized.

Uh....cutting off something mid-stream (and, BTW, that was most Ukraine) is a completely different thing than a balanced trade situation.

You can look it up in 100 ways - but Germany doesn't need anything from Russia. The two countries choose to have mutual trade...of a VERY small size. Plenty of Oil off Norway....and it's easy to transport around the world also.

Word is that Trump wants Germany to buy more expensive American LNG....but that would be idiotic for Germany to do. As I said, they are using that small amount (10%) of energy only as as stop-gap in their quest for full renewables. They are almost there....

Trump should mind his own business. Complaining about mutual trade of 20 billion isn't even a rounding error. Next thing Trump will want to weight their bowel movements.

To say nothing of Trump and his Campaign and friends connections to Russian Oligarchs...many of them involved in energy. Why isn't Trump complaining about our local Lukoil gas station? Why isn't he complaining about our imports from Russia (it is known Trump doesn't like the Sanctions...so he wants the US MORE reliant on Russia).

The old pot calling the kettle black. Trump ships our coal to China and much of our energy or resources all over the world...to adversaries. Somehow I don't hear much about that.

Lets see. It's not hard to understand.
  • Germany needs oil. Lots of it. It's an industrial nation.
  • Germany has no oil reserves.
  • Russia has plenty of oil.
  • Russian has pipeline for oil to go to Germany.
  • When Putin yanks chain, Merkel barks.

Not hard to understand at all.

As usual Trump is 100% right.

Trump is in no position to complain about anyone being "captive" to anyone else.

Even if we ignore the US sucking up to our theocratic "allies" such as Saudi Arabia for their oil (which started long before Trump), Trump himself is disgustingly beholden to every right-wing extremist group out there... and, quite possibly, Russia as well.

Listening to Trump cast judgement on others is the ultimate case of the pot calling the kettle black.

You must keep in mind that while Trump does say things that are intentionally provocative for no apparent reason, he also does the same thing where there is intent behind his hyperbole.
Some of his private business experience does not match up well with the more diplomatic expectations of a potus, but some of his real world experience and negotiation style does in fact work.

Every person, regardless of their ideological perspective carries with them positives and negatives. Trump is no different.
So while he is certainly open to legitimate criticism for some of what he does, those who want to pounce on everything, wind up with egg on their face in the long run.

Frankly, I find it funny how leftists wanted to always give Obama the benefit of the doubt, yet resure to give Trump any at all.

What alternative does Germany have, complete hypocrisy for us to criticize a country for where they get energy. We use Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and we are looking down on Germany.
