Democrats have hit an unexpected speed bump in their drive to regain control of Congress: unsettling signs that the party may not generate as much turnout or support among Latino voters this fall as it expected.
...
While cautioning that there is still time to reverse the trend, they point to signs of wavering Hispanic support and engagement in House districts in Texas, Nevada, Florida and California, and in Senate races in Texas, Nevada, Florida and Arizona.
"I still think it's a little too soon to push the panic button, but having said that, we are not seeing the types of numbers with Hispanic voters that we should be seeing with the most hostile person to ever hold public office against Hispanics as the President," said Fernand Amandi, principal at Bendixen & Amandi International, a Democratic polling firm that specializes in studying Latino voters. "And that in and of itself is a concern. I'm flabbergasted."
Maybe Latinos are too busy working and being productive to pay attention to the Democrats.
Hispanics are not the straight ticket, identity politics voters that blacks routinely have been. The expectation that they will be is going to be a constant source of frustration for the Democrats, because latinos are usually much more practical in their thinking than that.

Betting on Hispanics is a fool's gamble. As Hispanics become more integrated the political divisions that existed back in Latin America will emerge again.
Latinos are often very Catholic and socially conservative, and the only thing they have in common with Democrat platform is wanting free stuff. But, that can definitely change as people start to have ownership in a place.

Who isn’t busy working and being productive right now? Name ‘em
Hispanics are not universally thrilled about loose borders either.
I know not all illegal immigrants are criminals, but the ones that are don’t target me. They target the Hispanic community and their children. Plus they have to compete with the good ones for jobs. It’s a very complicated issue.
I think the so called dreamers should be made permanent residents, but it seems that neither party is willing to fix that issue. And then you have a contingent that wants to abolish ICE, which will hurt them more than us. I can’t help thinking of all the stories in Houston of crime that happens to them, like that 14-year old boy found in a ditch cut up with a machete, or all the home invasions where people are killed and everyone is Hispanic. They don’t say it on the news, but how much of that is cartel related? Most immigrants just want to get away from what was happening in their home countries. They don’t want it coming here, and ICE is their last defense against that happening.
