Not a civil war, but another American Revolution imo. The people need to step up and remove this govt from power, and not just the Trump administration, Im referring to the govt that exists and retains its power despite which party holds the presidency or control at any given time...THIS is what needs to be stopped.

I haven’t seen evidence of socialism working better than capitalism .. I’ve seen it be a lot worse .

If you live in the U.S .. a capitalist society it makes sense to work within the system .

What’s the point of fighting capitalism and replacing it with a worse system ?

It's not Trumps fault. He's just overseeing the final offing of the wounded soldiers on the battlefield....or, as the article put it, "Trump’s nationalistic right-wing populism, which scapegoats immigrants and minorities to deflect rage from Cohn and his fellow profiteers, is nothing new"....

Good article for those who have some sanity and can understand words and the bigger picture...

Discontent can be harvested....for positive or for negative. In Trumps' care he does not have any experience in the former...so chose the easier path, the time-honored scapegoating we've seen at many times in history (ours and others)....
There was no link to any article, however your analysis is interesting.

I read this article a few months ago and it was quite interesting.

Funny, there are a lot of people that say they are living the American Dream on Shark Tank.
I wonder if there's any correlation to the fact that most of them worked hard, took chances and sacrificed to make it so.
Not to mention millions of immigrants who now own businesses

The only American Dream I have is for QUALITY health care that EVERYONE can afford. When you have a system where an Insurance company makes a decision based on their profits and not a person's well being, or what condition they may suffer from that could cost them more money is NOT the answer. NOR is offering them cheap plans that do not cover the basics or those conditions. The current skinny offering do not cover Pregnancies for "Your Imaginary Friend's sake. That is Not the American dream, it is criminal.

Health care should be non profit and Every legal citizen or resident should be covered. When a Clerk on a phone can decide whether or not one get's service is a travesty.

And honestly, if anyone does not believe this in their gut, they are simply mean and self centered or just plain ignorant. Just wait till YOU need it and can't get it, you will see. and BTW, you all WILL need it at some point.

Well, then, the 10's of thousands of comments I have been reading must be made up by Russians!

Listen - I was an employer of note in the 1980's and 1990's. Even at that point the black candidate didn't have the shot as a white one...in relatively progressive areas. You can be certain this was true and measurable.

Also, the further you go back, the more true it was - so if mom and dad didn't have a good job, it's less likely their children will...and their grandchildren. It take generations to rid ourselves of a problem that took 100's of years (and 15 generations or so) to create.

I wish the world turned on a dime....but it doesn't. Wasn't a large portion (about 1/2) of the population against that "black POTUS"??? Aren't about 40% for a POTUS now who is clearly white supremacist??

The American dream is indeed largely dead. We are moving more towards a second Gilded Age with power and money concentrated in the hands of less than 1% of the US population. This has nothing to do with Trump, although he is hardly helping the situation.

If anything at all is killing the American Dream it's globalism.

You can try to make it fuzzy, but there are ways to measure happiness - which is really the basis of the American Dream. Some of it is lack of stress....not possible when medical bankruptcies are soaring and people have student debt for a large part of their lives.

Are you sure yours is different? Is it sustainable and good for the country, world and people involved in it.

I lived my American Dream - no complaints. But I don't close my eyes to what is around me. If the American Dream involves scapegoating others who don't look or speak like white people...well, then, Trump HAS given it back to many. But I thought it involved prosperity and happiness and clean air and water....and blessings to our posterity.
The American Dream also didn't ever include:

The fact that your children and grandchildren will be less prosperous with less opportunity than you had
The fact that every dime you manage to save will be extracted for health care by the end of your life
The fact that freedom of speech and the press are no longer valued and are continually attacked each and every day

It's a long list.

Excellent article. Points out what I have always thought, Trump is just the ultimate outcome of a degrading process that has been going on for decades, the seeds of which go all the way back to the founding of the country.
