I dont think its Pence. I think lodestar was likely a misdirection. I thought at first it was likely overblown by the NYT and probably some low level staffer, but seeing Trumps response and the official response, I now consider it much more likely it was an important official in the administration. Maybe it really was Pence, who knows, but it seems like too obvious of a tell.

I don't think it's Pence either. The person who wrote this has an over inflated sense of his/her own self-importance. I think Pence has at least some humility.
The word ― which Merriam-Webster defines as either “a star that leads or guides” or a person who “serves as an inspiration, model, or guide” ― isn’t that commonly used. But Pence apparently says it a lot, according to this mash-up posted on Twitter:
Then in a follow up tweet, he insisted: “If the GUTLESS anonymous person does indeed exist, the Times must, for National Security purposes, turn him/her over to government at once.” Later he tweeted:
Welcome to Crazytown.
Kellyanne and George Conway wrote the letter together.
It was fabricated by the NY Times in order to create propaganda to undermine the administration. Either that or it's a troll job by Trump himself or someone near him.
If someone like Pence(c'mon REALLY?) did it this should frighten anyone whether you like Trump or not. Someone from his own admin trying to create a soft coup.
Can you imagine if was indeed Mike Pence who wrote the OpEd?
First, could the POTUS fire the VP? This would be unprecedented.
Second, if it were Mike Pence, I can already imagine Trump's tweet storm:
"Gutless Pu^sy Pence tried staging a coup against me and FAILED. SAD!"
No he can't. That's why I think it's plausible it was him. He's kind of untouchable.
