Democrats had done enough to anger their constituents, that those constituents voted them out of the majority in the Senate. So they no longer had the votes in the committees they needed.

Yet we keep hearing, in regard to confirmation hearings for Garland, that the Republicans should have given them "what is rightfully theirs" and held hearings.

"What is rightfully theirs" is what the voters decided they should have. You got a problem with that?

Basically, the Democrats blew it.

Elections have consequences. One of them is that, if you lose, you can't dictate what the Senate does any more.

I think the American people deserved a hearing on Garland. Who by all accounts is a well-respected jurist.

The Democrats didn't deserve anything. It was the president, his nominee, and Americans that deserved a hearing.

Talk to Joe Biden about it. Hes the one who called for a similar tactic when it was going to benefits the Democrats in 1992.

The trouble with trying to bend rules to your favor is that eventually they turn into rules that go against your wishes. I use the word "rules" lightly as this wasn't an official rule or anything, but rather a precedent that Biden tried to set.

It was not a matter of deserving as it was a matter of the GOP being the crooked thieving POS they are. They stole seat on The SCOTUS to fulfill a generation's-long scheme to pack the court to make it in favor of corporate entities as a Plutocracy is their ultimate goal. The Dems need to grow a pair and add more judges when they take back the house and the Senate. Kavanaugh and Gorsuch showed their lack of integrity when they failed to acknowledge that a seat was stolen. Both are corporate tools.

No

If they want to appoint judges they need to win elections.

Running on hate America didn't help them but they learned nothing from it and are doing it again.
It doesn't look like appointing judges is all that important to them.

Again, see my post above. If both "teams" would stop changing the rules, this non-sense would go away. Deal with the hand dealt and figure it out there or else the court stacking plan will just bite you again down the road. Its a dumb tactic and one designed for those that cant handle adversity or work in a way that is bi-partisan. Both sides fail at this, and do so on a grand scale.

NOPE...the Senate had the majority votes of Republicans and told Obama don't bother with your pick, you don't have the votes. We want a conservative and we will wait until after the Presidential election. Democrats not only lost the Presidential election but didn't do $hit in the Senate.....elections have consequences.

If Democrats want to call the shots like they had done in the past with Obamacare and other Senate rules then they must win elections.

you think if Democrats had the majority in the Senate they wouldn't do the same thing to Trump? hypocrites!!!

Did the American people "deserve" for their elected politicians to do their job, and have a hearing, and give a up or down vote on a supreme court justice rather then leaving it unfilled for what? A year?

Yeah we kind of did. This thread is just partisan nonsense. People need to use their brains and start thinking about the country rather then trying to justify their parties dirty tricks.
