::shrug:: IME, almost every guy I know, regardless of race, has pretended to be Superman at some point and time or another in their lives. The story I most hear is a little boy ties a towel around his neck and tries to jump out of a tree/off the top of the roof. It seems split 50/50 as to whether their folks catch them before or after they do this.
My dad (white) did this when he was a little boy back in the late 1940's. A Navajo friend of mine did it when he was a little boy in the 1980's. I've heard similar stories from men of all races and ages admitting to this. So obviously, Superman touches a chord in all of them.
And quite frankly, given that Superman's backstory gets updated with every new incarnation anyway, I don't see the problem with him being black. In another ten years, another actor'll be picked, and he could be white. So what? Time marches on. Superman's an alien from another planet, and his skin color has squat to do with his superpowers.

But Superman's appearance hasn't changed in any of the incarnations....
George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, Henry Cavill, all look similar (and Tom Welling in the Smallville TV series).
So why suddenly change his appearance? All to satisfy a minority?
Why do so many people care about those awful movies about comic book characters? One after another and they ALL suck ass. Hollywood is a disgrace with no original or inspiring ideas.

I don't. I'm wondering why "adults" care so much about these childish crappy movies. It's indicative of the maturity level of these so called "adults" that take these "cartoons" to heart so much.

*Shrug* I could say similar things about wondering why people go bonkers over watching sports, but figure if that's what they want to do, ok. As long as people are paying their bills and otherwise being responsible (and many are), who cares if they have fun watching movies and otherwise doing geeky things? I am definitely a Marvel fangirl myself.

Doesn't matter to me much what Hollywood does these days. I find their lack of new ideas, pushing identity politics into everything they do, and just plain bad product a reason not to bother much with anything they produce now. If they want to turn Superman into a Gay Black Transvestite, then I'm all for letting them do it.
I find the best movies, the ones I care to watch, are coming out of the independent shops, and other non-Hollywood based studios these days.
