Education Secretary Betsy DeVos lost a lawsuit brought by 19 states and the District of Columbia, accusing her department of wrongly delaying implementation of Obama-era regulations meant to protect student loan borrowers from predatory practices.

The Obama administration created the rule in the wake of revelations that some for-profit colleges enticed students with promises of an education and diplomas that would enable them to get jobs in their chosen fields. In reality, many of those certifications weren’t recognized by prospective employers, leaving graduates saddled with student loans they couldn’t repay.

A Washington federal court judge ruled Wednesday that the department’s postponement of the so-called Borrower Defense rule was procedurally improper.

The gov and our money should be entirely out of the student loan crisis.
Its up to the borrower/student to research the validity or worthiness of a degree and there no gurantees unless someone puts in writing.

God forbid anyone do any real college research before attending, same goes for taking out home loans.

Despite a host of free classes, on-line stuff etc. people just don't want to educate themselves before taking huge life changing steps and what's even more awesome, they don't want to take responsibility for their own choices.

Now, I understand that getting totally ripped off is something else entirely but holy blanking poop...there are actual JOKES made about going to schools like University of Pheonix etc. in pop culture.

At some point, if you send all your money to a Nigerian Prince, perhaps this is a Darwinian type thing.

oh gee more rules that those that want to sell college degrees wont follow. same with home loans and many other things.

in the end people have to do their own research, and make up their own minds, and actually THINK about their future instead of just moving along like the masters want us to.

I used to live next door to a manger in an engineering division of 3M. He told me that they have used non resident engineers for a while now because they can get them cheaper. A kid going to a Big 10 school for engineering could graduate with 100k in debt to get that degree. A kid from,India may have 10k in debt because of the subsidies they get from the government. So which student can afford to start as an assistant to the assistant for 40k a year?

I could be wrong, but I do believe he is arguing for affordable higher education. Developing nations are outpacing developed nations when it come to STEM graduates by a few million. When it comes to STEM education, we are failing.

Actually he is arguing to subsidize 3M's entry level employees, but doesnt realize it.
Getting the govt and our money out of education would go along way towards reducing costs.
As for 3M, it is responsible for finding its own qualified help and can always assist with education costs if need be.

You genuinely believe that higher education costs are reasonable? And you do realize that many higher education institutions are state run? Are you saying that state universities should no longer exist?
