US President Donald Trump Monday threatened to impose new tariffs on additional USD 267 billion worth of imports from China and asserted that there will be no deal with Beijing unless it changes its unfair trade practices. Referring to his trade war with China, Trump told reporters at a White House news conference that China wanted to talk to the US very badly, but he was not ready yet.
Yup, while China lowers its tariffs with the rest of the world, the war with America continues. Trump is taking a pretty hard line with them. I have a hard time seeing it working as he expects because of China history, but we shall see. China HAS taken advantage of the US in trade, Trump is 100% right on that. I just dont see these actions as the sort that will resolve this.

It sounds much like the same kind of approach he has used with Mexico, Canada, and others. Its very similar to the way he has negotiated on nuclear proliferation.
He has had some success and even Schumer is saying the new USMCA looks like a good deal.
So whatever measure of success anyone wants to give him from 1% to 100% he deserves support to work his plan and see if it fails or is again successful. It only helps the opponent when we try to undermine Trump on these issues. We are not going to stop him from trying his way, anyway.
I heard China has been closing ports to US ships, dodging US navy ships near their contested waterways, and they canceled a recent security summit with the US. This trade war is just getting started. Xi may be taking this perceived offense personally. The pressure on the communist government is undoubtedly tense. The people will hold them accountable for whatever comes of this. Lets hope for the sake of humanity, it does not become anything close to a hot war. Both nations have a history of not shying from war.

Its not about Xi taking it personally. Its about the entire country of China taking it personally because of their history. Forcing them to trade has some VERY specific national trauma for them. Its why I say this may not resolve as Trump and his advisors are expecting.
The "pressure" you talk about IS probably intense.....to not back down at all. And they have a big enough war chest to afford this for a long long time. And I agree that war is a significant risk. Because right now China is getting to feeling like its big enough to take us. And I dont think it is. But the experience will suck for everyone.

Where did you hear this ^^^^^^
Any links to support it or will hearsay be enough or all that is needed ?
Is a example of closing a port to a us naval ship. The other ones have been talked about enough that it may be considered common knowledge I would think.

And both Canada and Mexico got what they wanted and laughing behind closed doors.
LOL.
