Envelopes sent to Mattis, Navy chief test positive for ricin|New York Post - October 2, 2018

Two envelopes addressed to Secretary of Defense James Mattis and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson have initially tested positive for the deadly poison ricin at the Pentagon’s mail facility, according to a report.

Ricin, a highly toxic compound extracted from castor beans, has been used in terror plots and is lethal in tiny doses if swallowed, inhaled or injected. It is 6,000 times more potent than cyanide.

If ingested, it causes nausea, vomiting and internal bleeding of the stomach and intestines, followed by failure of the liver, spleen and kidneys, and death by collapse of the circulatory system.

At the same time - a letter was delivered to a Ted Cruz campaign office - tested negative.

REPORT: TRUMP, SEC. MATTIS RECEIVE LETTERS SUSPECTED OF CONTAINING DEADLY POISON RICIN| Daily Caller - 10/2/18

A letter addressed to President Trump has been labeled suspicious and is being tested for the deadly poison ricin, according to a CNN report Tuesday evening.

“The Secret Service is confirming that a suspicious envelope was received addressed to President Trump,” said Barbara Starr, CNN’s Pentagon correspondent. “There are indications they suspect — suspect only at this point — it may have contained ricin. Additional testing will have to be completed. The Secret Service [is] being very close about the details, not saying exactly where that letter was received.”

The day prior, two letters addressed to James Mattis and Admiral John Richardson containing the same poison were discovered at the Pentagon.

We will never know but I wonder how they detect an envelope of Risin in the mail. Is there a detector?

Yes, all mail coming into certain places get tested for a variety of things.

This happened in 2013 too -- Did it happen with Bush too? Lucky they have safety measures in place.
