Yeah, his relentless hunger for applause.

The Post-Campaign Campaign of Donald Trump
He has been president for more than a year — so why is he still holding rallies?

By Charles Homans

Before the election, his subversion of the forms of American politics served to underscore the basic argument of his campaign, which was that America’s problems could be solved easily if you overthrew the country’s governing class, with all their idiocies of convention. But Trump and his voters had done exactly that, and America’s problems had not instantly disappeared. One of Trump’s more reliable impulses is evading responsibility, and he spent much of these speeches herding together the scapegoats — the media, the recalcitrant Democrats, the F.B.I., the system — who might account for his situation, without appearing to realize that he was drawing the self-portrait of a man who had wanted power but gotten authority instead.

They said the same about Obama when he was in office.

I think Trump has really been surprised about the pushback from the Left when it comes to his ideas and policies that he would like to implement.

It really is crazy that something as basic as border security can motivate so many to block attempts at stemming the flow of illegal aliens into the country.

Trumps head must spin over that.

I do think that given any day of non stop attacks by the media and Dems on Trump it does get him down because don't we all just want to be liked? so he takes to the rallies and his adoring fans to give himself a much needed ego boost.

Trump just wants to be loved.

The Democrats invented the "permanent campaign". Nothing wrong with the President taking his message directly to his supporters instead of having it filtered through a biased media.

That sound right on target to me.

I don't think Trump had any idea what he was getting into. Apart from his ignorance about basic things like law and the Constitution, I think he envisioned the presidency as more of a dictatorship. That's a major reason why it's so totally wrong to elect a businessman. Businesses aren't run like democracies. Trump has never been held accountable for anything (and still tries to weasel out of everything). Someone once said - maybe on Colbert - that he probably envisioned the presidency as the equivalent of endless ribbon-cutting ceremonies. The idea of slogging through complex policy papers never occurred to him, I'm sure.

And, sure, he wants to be loved. But there are too differences for Trump. One is that it's more like a pathological mania with him. The other is that it's very one sided, like the way he expects loyalty from others, but doesn't show loyalty himself. That crazed yearning for admiration makes him so easy to manipulate.
