If it affects my health, then I should have a say in it.
I am allergic to cigarette smoke, wood-burning fireplace smoke and many other such substances.
I have no say over my neighbors' smoking habits nor do I have any say about how often they use their fireplaces.
I will be moving next year to a be in an environment more conducive to my health.
I don't think we are still decades from legalization when close to 70% of the electorate now believes it should be legal recreationally.
But the GOP, lead by the Christian Right, is still fully committed to prohibition. They have 100% of the power in this country right now. It really doesn't matter if 90% of the population wants it legalized. Those who rule over us do not and until that changes, there's little hope of progress on this issue in the US at least at the federal level. The best we can hope for is that the status quo is maintained until 2025. Then when we get Democrats back in office, we can honor the will of the American people and legalize.
