Thanks.

Her family (mom, dad, two brothers, older sis) will be joining her in America 1-2 years from now. Family-based visa petition from their relatives. Took them 12 years from start to finish.

It only took my wife 18 months for the whole process for spousal petition.

So yes, america is still open its door for LEGAL immigrants

Sounds like she married an American.

Only if you have certain immediate family connections from certain countries (processing times up to 20 years), or have certain skills and a corporate sponsor.

The asylum seeks have no other category that they can apply through.

edit: just read your other post where you admit her family is coming through chain migration - not because they have skills.

Just sit down and ask for asylum. BP won't harm compliant migrants just sitting down.
The whole point of the trek was/is to get onto US soil and ask for asylum.

Maybe CBP was pushing them back through. And why are we using fencing with columns spaced apart enough for people to squeeze through?

No one is advocating opening the border and letting them flood in. However, completely shutting down the border and not taking any is inhumane at this point. I suspect we're rapidly approaching a showdown with Mexico over it.
The problem with the people in these caravans is that they are line jumpers and want to cut in front of legitimate immigrant applicants.

And just because they want better economic opportunities, doesn't justify allowing them into the US. They speak no English at all, have no money and lack any desirable job skills. Where are they going to live at work if our own poor Americans are struggling to find affordable housing as they work minimum wage jobs?

And what about that woman with three children running from the tear gas cannister? How is she supposed to survive in the US? Who is going to take care of her non-English speaking children while she works a minimum wage job?

And you also conveniently forget that when our "ancestors" first arrived in America, they weren't given food stamps, Section 8 housing vouchers or other government handouts. It was either sink or swim.

Plus... what about our Native Americans? What right do you or any other liberal have to have an open border to these caravans of Central Americans, when technically we stole our lands from the Native Americans. Shouldn't they be the ones having a say in who else comes to live permanently in America?

And shouldn't we be helping out are homeless first before taking in anymore waifs? And shouldn't we be taken care of the victims of the Camp Fire that wiped out Paradise, CA first? And what about the Puerto Ricans who are still recovering from Hurricane Maria? America really doesn't have anything extra to give to these economic migrants. They really need to either accept Mexico's offer of jobs and housing or just to plain go back to their home country and work to fix their own problems. They should not be abandoning their country.

There are actually other groups of people in the world who are far worse off than these caravan people (many of whom are overweight despite their several months of travel by foot). There are people starving to death in Yemen and what about the displaced Royhingans?

We can't help everyone. And no cutting in line.

There are a lot of immigrant based visas. Family, spousal, investor, skills based, lottery, etc. too many to name.

I know one thing for certain is there is no "visa" for bum rush an international border, throw rocks at border agents, and demanding to enter US "visa"

Anyway, the whole point is we welcome average of 1 millions LEGAL immigrants each year into US.

They are not really cutting the line as there is no line that the can join/no line they qualify to join. They are dirt poor and have nothing to lose.

That's it! For those that are caught here and the courts say we must let them stay while their asylum cases are processed, we take them to Puerto Rico. It isn't deporting them. It's U.S. territory. But it's a small island far away from the mainland so they can't "disappear" when their case is denied and it's time to deport them. They will be easy to find because the locals will be all too glad to point them out and get them gone.

There may be no line for them and that's fine because the world's population does not have an inherent right to come here. But they are still "cutting line" in the sense that their tens of thousands of frivolous asylum applications will dramatically slow down subsequent legitimate asylum applications.

Actually, what Trump should do is direct all ICE resources to processing the backlog of asylum applications. That means no family petitions or H1Bs or such get processed until the asylums cases are cleared. That would take years. The legal immigrants forced to wait additional years and the corporations denied cheap labor will have a fit and suddenly demand a wall and an end to illegal immigration.

And, we have everything to lose by allowing dirt poor, illiterate in their own language, uneducated peasants into this country. Ditto everything Miu and oceangaia said.
