I hear a lot of democrats claim that conservatives "vote against their own self interests" but I've never fully understood how anyone could vote for their own self interest by supporting candidates who in turn support illegal immigrants either through illegal immigration, sanctuary city policies or abolishing ICE.

Can anyone explain this to me? The only way I can see where it might make sense is if the voter is a legal US citizen but has family members who are illegal, otherwise I can't rationalize it.

Voting for the party that wants to force me to submit to a deity I don't believe in and that wants to take away my right to love who I want to love will never get my vote, no matter what my opinions are on other issues.

Both parties suck. The Dem party to me is the lesser of 2 evils and a good way to put a check on the 3 govt branches which each has swung too far to the extreme right. Dems don’t lower my taxes and shower rewards on illegals and poor people. But they do support human rights so they’ll get my vote this time around.

Can you explain those 2 points to me? When has anyone tried to force you to submit to a deity and who has tried to take away your right to love who you want?

I think a lot of people see it this way. There may be one or more big issues you agree with the other party on.

Personally I don't like the way the Dems handle guns. Politicizing every tragedy to call for stricter gun laws is not good strategy and gives fuel to the Republican base while doing nothing for meaningful gun reform. However, that's not a priority issue for me so I can overlook it. On illegal immigration, I'm not for open borders but I'm against Trump's hard-lined, cruel approach and I'm against an expensive wall that I worry may one day be more beneficial for keeping Americans in than Mexicans out.

I think it is because democrats look at voting polls some going back many decades and they concluded white Americans are naturally conservatives/libertarian/Republican voters and the illegal aliens mostly Hispanic through amnesty or time increase the democrat voter base.

If Democrats were to completely crack down on illegal immigration and immigration all together, I'd likely trade that for their socialist policies. You can fix economic policies but you can't fix cultural influences you imported.

Picking the lesser of two evils is like requesting a little foreplay before your rapist does the deed.

So you vote for democrats because you believe they support human rights? How do Republicans not support human rights?

Do you live in a border state or anywhere near a national border?

What about the human right to not have your territory and communities flooded with foreigners and mainly from the third world at that?
