The fact that he is a Trump supporter does matter. It's a sign that Trump's overheated and reckless rhetoric are inspiring unstable individuals to commit dangerous acts. If Trump doesn't tone it down he's complicit.

Right, you heard nothing else. It seems some stories get more traction than others, doesn't it? A threatening package sent to the White House and one to Gen. Mattis is just a blip on the media's radar, with no calls for people to "tone down" their rhetoric. If anything is definitive of media bias, it's this.
