I was scanning the local Meet Ups in my city and was thinking about going to one to see what it was like. Have you joined anything similar since the last election? Seems more satisfying to talk to a human than an online forum. No typing involved!

Most Meet Up groups, not just political, seem to have hundreds of members so it was funny to see one for Hillary supporters: 33 members. There's that pesky 33(000) again

I'm a member and committee chair of the county's League of Women Voters. Political enough for you?

Can a man who identifies as a woman join the League of Women Voters?

Beats me. If the League of Women voters was really upset over that possibility, wouldn't they have to appoint someone to guide all the "ladies" into a private room in order to ascertain if they had the correct private parts? I bet the Democratic ladies wouldn't give a flying fig while the Republican ladies would check everyone twice. Just another reason to affiliate with the Dems.

As for your original question, I'm loosely affiliated with the local Democratic Party, as well as a group of local left wing activists. I check on FaceBook to see if they're up to anything interesting, and if it seems important, I'll attend. I enjoy meeting like-minded people in my community and getting their take on the various issues. I've been to several rallies and marches which were great fun because I live in a small town, and at the end of the day, were all going to run into each other at church or the local grocery store. Most people in my town prefer to get along and be civil to one another. It just doesn't pay to be extremely mean spirited and end up having half the town hate you.

Too bad the same doesn't hold true on the National level and in the major urban areas. I hate how mean people have become over politics in this country.

Why don't you ask your local chapter?

Most of these types of groups lean heavily towards one side or the other. Either hard staunch rightie or kooky militant leftie. As a moderate conservative, I find much of value system is generally at odds with either type of group. I have a good friend at work who is hard right and he gets upset at me sometimes because my views are much more moderate than he feels a conservative's SHOULD be. I'm sure the same happens with moderate democrats when around groups of staunch leftists. The power of groups drives people even further in one of two directions. This is also the goal of the media, both sides.
