I keep hearing people talk about "open borders"

to me that means the difference between the states in the USA, the only checkpoint I know of is between Florida/panhandle states for agricultural inspection.

in your opinion what exactly does an "open border" mean?

A border without paperwork requirements or regulation is an open border.

It means exactly what it states: a border that is open (i.e. crossable) without any controls or restrictions.

A border that people can cross without paperwork, or a legitimate reason. 'Open Borders' really isn't strong enough for what the left is supporting.

It's a dog whistle term for a state of being that almost no one wants. One which the right wing uses in order to portray the vast majority of the left, who don't want this any more than they do, as being the same as the small, small minority of far left wingnuts that actually do want open borders. We have crazies too, but at least we acknowledge they're crazy.

What you wrote was funny to me.

"... can cross without paperwork, or a legitimate reason." ... implying paperwork is not a legitimate excuse to exclude or admit immigrants.

I don't know why its funny, I guess you had to be there.

open borders is letting over 20 million illegals come here and stay here and give them rights and benefits for them and their children at taxpayer's expense. Build sanctuary cities for them defying federal laws and tie the court system for a long time to keep them here.

that's pretty much the democrat party policy.

Showing up at the border with a child you kidnapped claiming to be a family will get you paperwork, but it's not legitimate.

I'm glad that is a rare occurrence... if it happens at all.
