"After each episode of school killings ... there is a renewed public outcry for early identification and treatment of youths at risk for violence."
However, "The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) ... warns about pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into more mental health services in response to" school shootings, and "cautions against acting on mental health experts’ advice to increase mental health funding or to enact stronger involuntary commitment laws as violence prevention measures."
"CCHR says that pouring more funds into a mental health system that keeps failing and continues to use 'treatments' that may induce violent and suicidal behavior in a percentage of those taking them, is a recipe for future disaster."
It's debatable whether being on certain medications or improperly-controlled withdrawal from medication induces violent behavior. But just throwing more money at the Mental Health system may not be the answer.

The BigPharma lobby throwing more $$$ at Congress certainly doesn't seem to be the answer.

The CCHR is just a Church of Scintology front group.
The Church of Scientology being well known for it's anti-mental health and psychiatry agenda.
In terns of Mental Health, most of the latest drugs in relation to conditions such as schizophrenia are very effective with much fewer side effects, whilst involuntary commital is a last resort in reation to the psychotic or need to be assessed as they are a danger to themselves or others.
The vast majority of mental health work is community based, however higher spending on mental health is welcomed in most countries, as are moe resources, beds and emergency teams. It's also preferable that people receive proper treatment ans support rather than ending up in the criminal justice system or self harming or commiting suicide.

The Pharmaceutical Industry, and Medical profession have successfully convinced people they need to be drugged in order to function. Often these anti depressants, and anti anxiety medications have know suicidal, and other negative side effects. Being sad, depressed, and anxious is NORMAL for humans. Not all the time, but sometimes. Just drugging people is not the answer for mental health. It is dangerous.

In today's world being sad, anxious, and depressed seems like the logical behavior given everything we have to contend with.

No more than any other time in history. We've been through World Wars, Depressions, on the verge of Nuclear Holocaust, and other catastrophes. Today we are safer, more secure, more affluent, and more comfortable than ever. People are just WEAKER today, and feel more entitled.

I think the loss of community and family connections has really hurt people.
