We can all agree that it's important for humanity. No matter how you feel about government or tax. This is probably one of the best causes..
Very much agreed. It’s amazing what NASA has been able to accomplish given the meager budget it gets.
I’ve long said I think NASA is the one government agency that does some real good in the world and the one agency that I would like to see a larger budget for.
Hate to blow the theme, but I don't agree. We've screwed up so much on earth that I think we should leave such things to hopefully more evolved beings that may be living elsewhere in the universe.
Reminds me of Carlin's bit on "Saving the Planet". We're going to "save the planet" but we haven't even figured out how to love and care for one another.
I agree with you on all fronts. Now, if we can get congress to do their job and come up with comprehensive immigration reform we'll be well on the road to solving the illegal problem.
Define reform. Offering rewards and amnesty for criminal behavior is not reform.
Streamlining a massively redundant system is reform.
Lowering our already low standards is not the answer either. We need to attract gifted well educated immigrants. WE produce a bumper crop of barrels literate citizens on our own.
In regard to the OP:
Yes NASA is one of our best agencies. Far less political than the EPA.
Far less redundant and controversial than the DEA, ATF, EPA and others.

There’s way too much out there for humans to screw up. Our universe is unlimited and it’s not the only one, just try wrapping your brain around that
Those are just some examples of what NASA has done for each and every one of us.
Beyond that, yes, they explore space. I'm a science junkie so I'm in full support of what they do. We have seen many beautiful images that we would never have seen were it not for them. They explore, they get data, they hypothesize...you know, like a scientist does.
With your attitude, well, no such need to go exploring the ocean, either, it's not like we'll ever live under the sea. Nevermind what that exploration has done for us, as well.
Back in the olden days, people thought the earth was flat, so what would have been the point of exploring? They're just going to reach the edge and either fall off, or come back and tell us what we already knew. Except, that exploration proved that the earth was not flat.
Exploration is a good thing. You don't always have to get something like "life" for it to be "worthwhile".
If you want to be a NASA fanboy and drink all the koolaid they serve up, fine. I personally think they lie a lot and show us CGI video game graphics passed off as real photographs, but the problem is I can't really prove it and neither can you.
Back in the olden days people did think the earth was flat. In 2018 many people still do. I'm not sure what's going on there but if the earth was so obviously round like a sphere then there shouldn't be any evidence suggesting otherwise to keep people up at night right? Expect for this troubling little thing called "trigonometry" that many of us learned in high school that seems to betray the earth being a sphere ~25,000 miles in circumference. You can look into that one too but I suspect this would be too difficult to contemplate rationally. You've been told the earth was a sphere by all the authorities on the matter so dammit, it's a sphere! I honestly am not sure what to believe on this one. I can tell you for certain that I have never seen what our world looks like from afar with my own two eyes, and will reserve judgement on this one.

I live about 50 miles east of Cape Canaveral and it's truly amazing seeing these rockets launched especially when the space shuttle program was still going.
Lump in your throat type moments if you know what I mean.
