Unless would fit better, and the majority of Americans do not get cancer, nor suffer from major heart disease. Majority do not use $9k of service in a year. That is why typically employers pay $7k for single coverage a year, and at least $1k = profit.
Perhaps not, but it's pretty likely that he will get something expensive over the course of his life. The point is that self-insured does not work well usually.
You mean they won't mourn my $775 per month $9000 deductible????
I won't either because I refuse to join the Obamacare scam. It's much cheaper for me to pay the penalty and self-pay for my ailments.
Oh, I would do some price checking on the cost of treating ailments if I were you!

You must not have anything catastrophic then. Are you paying for cancer treatment? Are you diabetic? Sure, many people can pay for a doctor visit here and there. But self pay won't work in the long run unless you're wealthy. The fact that you say self-pay is cheaper than a $9,000 deductible tells me you're not dealing with a serious illness.

Any system where self-insurance doesn't work out most of the time isn't really insurance, is it? If everyone gets a lot more in benefits than they pay in to the system, it's more of an elaborate generational accounting trick than it is insurance.
Actually I do. I used to be a flaming liberal suckling the teet of the system. I remember spending full days in hospital er waiting rooms as illegal after illegal were treated for their ailments. I remember doing the same thing to get my free healthcare. I know more about the subject than most. But I also remember the day that I woke up, realized that government dependence was the same as modern day slavery. I didn't want to be a slave anymore, so I got off my butt, got a job, and never looked back.
The ER has to treat people by law. Treating an illness like cancer, however, is a different story. You can't get that through an ER.
