The republican Teddy Roosevelt broke up the largest companies in the country. If he had done it today, he would be called a communist.
Yet FDR nearly put us into another recession. World War II got us out of the 1929 Great Depression, not the New Deal.

There’s a difference between healthcare and health insurance. Comparing public schools, freeways, and all the other talking points isn’t a indicator as a positive for Socialism. In economics, there is a difference between a “public good” and a “commodity”. A “public good” is non-excludable and is a product that one person can consume without reducing its availability to others. Commodities are based on market value and public goods are set in place where its value doesn’t not change over time. A public good is something that is consumed by a society as a whole and not given to an individual as the sole consumer. National parks, national defense, and the sewer system are examples.

Anti-Trust laws can be pretty problematic. I don’t find late late 19th/early 20th century Standard Oil to be compatiable with how we perceive large companies today.

It seems everyone loves to hate Nancy Pelosi particularly the GOP and the people at Fox News.

The truth is Nancy is an incredibly skilled tactician and THAT is one reason the GOP loves to hate her. I am all for bringing in new leadership but IF that is done it must be done carefully. The job of Speaker isn't for everyone.

My guess is Nancy gets the job again and that is certainly not the end of the world for the Democrats. She knows how to get the job done.

We need the younger blood in there with the new ideas. Not a group of 80+ year old people like Pelosi who can't remember what they had for breakfast.

It would be a terrible, terrible choice. You need someone who has experience who actually knows how the system works. Just because you're new with fresh bold ideas doesn't mean you understand procedure and ins-and-outs of how everything works yet. Yes, that stuff really matters.

With this process, 'Speaker Pelosi' seems virtually a done deal to me.
This isn't true at all. There is no "bound" for any vote by a congressperson for Speaker of the House. The Constitution doesn't recognize the political parties.

Furthermore, there's nothing to stop the Republlicans from nominating O-C. Yes. That's how it works. And it's definately a worry for Pelosi. Appparently she has already talked to Trump about the Republicans voting for her.

Alexandria O-C is openly defying the presumed Democrat House Leadership. She already took down a 20 year career establishment Democrat leader. It will be interesting to see how far that goes.

No doubt, according to her hash tags, she want's to get rid of the geratric leadership and anyone who is straight, White & male. (though nu males might be excepted)

I believe her to be every bit as dumb and perhaps even more reckless than Nancy Pelosi....as a republican, I say bring her to the forefront Dims.

Ocasio Cortez is really not ready for primetime. She keeps saying and advocating stupid things. To be honest I think she will quickly become Republicans and the Fox News crowd's favorite Dem. I am also wondering how she will primary all these other reps- she can barely handle her current level of notoriety, trying to cooridinate another 40-50 campaigns on the side is definitely beyond her grasp.

And that is the one reason Pelosi will be Speaker if the Dems are smart- she knows how to coordinate campaigns, legislation, governing and fundraising simultaneously. Sadly I do not see another Dem in Congress with those capabilities.

I would not be surprised to see her Ocasio Cortez primaried in an upcoming election. That district is becoming more Hispanic and her positions look like they will go too far left of where most Hispanics vote.

As for Pelosi- I think she will hang it up in 2022 if a wins in 2020. She can boast about passing a gaggle of legislation between 2008 and 2010, retaking the House twice and being the highest ranking woman in the History of US Politics.
