I'll be honest. I hate the commercialization of Christmas and even moreso now that it's spilling over into Thanksgiving. But we don't need laws for tis. We just need people to stop shopping on Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
I guess the OP doesn't need to buy gas or a few extra groceries should a need actually arise? People can't have everything shut down. And, no, we don't need any more laws and restrictions.

According to who? You? And what makes you the expert? I don't shop on holidays, but that is my choice. Many folks depend on that extra income. Many businesses dont pay for lost hours due to holidays.

So here is a unique idea. You don't like stores to be open on holidays? Great stay at home and ignore them. Problem solved.

I was horrified when they started having sales on thanksgiving itself.

But clearly, a lot of buyers like it, and the store is making moolah. Count me out of the holiday shopping craze; I make most of the gifts I give.

That's what Stalin, Pol Pot and Hitler said.

You'll have to come up with something more original.

Only 3% of US businesses are corporations. The employ a tiny 5.8% of all workers.

Would your law apply only to the 3% of businesses that are corporations or would it also apply to the other 97% of businesses that are not corporations?

I think now most people prefer it this way. I’m just saying I’m glad I got to see and experience things before all this Christmas decorations in August started. But certainly if an employer is open employees will work. Some will be glad for extra money and some would rather be home. If someone wants to work let them work.

Ask your state.

It IS illegal to be open on Thanksgiving in RI, Maine, and Mass. Certain companies can petition to stay open, like restaurants. But there is no way to sell liquor.

So the OP seems to have solved the problem as it might pertain to him by living in France. Maybe he would experience less stress if he just focused on that and left other people alone to do what seems in their best interests. Having a temper tantrum over when businesses choose to do business in other countries seems unnecessarily stressful and pointless. It can't be good for him.

As much as I DETEST Black Friday, let alone the ABOMINABLE Black Thursday where they actually ruin Thanksgiving itself, and that Black Friday pushes consumerism, which has helped us become a nasty debt economy and also, just as bad, has served to greatly contradict everything Thanksgiving is supposed to be about, I think that naming the bad actors and shaming them into closing on Thanksgiving will be better than giving our already despotic government even more power:
