"Even though President Donald Trump is considered a hero to many American evangelical Christians, he couldn’t bring himself to join his fellow living American presidents to recite the Apostles’ Creed at former President George H.W. Bush’s funeral.

A video posted by CNN’s Keith Boykin shows that Trump stood in stone silence even as the former presidents seated near him read off the Apostles’ Creed.

Now, that's interesting! It doesn't look like Melania is reciting it either, and I was under the impression that she was raised Roman Catholic, so she should certainly know it.

ironically you are like one of those fake christers that criticizes people for not singing or not showing up in nice clothes because you think you are better.

I would like everyone to be civil but when everything you do is criticized in a negative way Trump has to be careful with even shaking someones hand.
Nice try, but acting like a civilized human being at a funeral is not going to be criticized in a negative way. He acted like the narcissist ass he is. He probably wished the funeral was more about him - so do most of us.

Is that Marilyn Quayle in the background. It looks like the 2nd row was the VPs row. Its funny Dan Quayle rose to VP and faded so much after 92 that I forget he- and she- would be 70 something at this point. I expect them to still be a 40 something couple with 80s hair.

I really have no problem with lukewarm indifference. I wish more people could practice that skill. I prefer it to anger or phony platitudes any day.

I was actually watching it live and saw this. Now, I am not a religious person at all so I had no clue what they were all reciting and reading from. What I did note was that both Trump and Melania did not pick up the paper to read from. I figured they just knew it by heart whatever it was. I didn't pay attention to see if they were reciting anything. But it was an odd picture with them not holding the paper as the others did.

Guess you’re mad that the Bushes were happy for him to show up and also didn’t want the funeral to be another political Trump bashing fest like McCain’s was.

You spoke to the Bushes? They had to invite him; it's protocol. I am pretty sure they are looking at the same photos we are and remarking none to fondly of his petulant behavior while he was there.

The Apostle's Creed, along with the Nicene Creed, are statements of Christian faith, and one or the other is recited at every service. Someone who attends church regularly probably knows them by heart and would likely only need to look at the service notes to see which one will be used. In this case, it does not appear that either the President or First Lady, who was raised Roman Catholic according to her biography, are reciting it, and I do find that interesting. I've never been under the impression that worship has played a particularly important role in President Trump's life, and this pretty much confirms it for me.

Who knows whether Mrs. Trump was raised Roman Catholic. Sure couldn't prove it by this. She has misrepresented other aspects of her life. Maybe she made this up as well.

Strange that they walked in late. Didn't make any attempt to join in the Apostle's Creed. Just awkward all the way around.

Mrs. Clinton didn't look furious. She looked solemn. She was seated four away from Mrs. Trump, so reaching across would have been awkward.

She didn't roll her eyes or grimace at the sight of him as many do. So that's a plus.
