I pick my battles, but it's very funny sometimes when people find out I disagree with them on something. They either get really quiet, confused, or they start talking to me as if I'm a right winger.

That's one reason I'm interested in talking to people on here. It keeps me sharp, and I can make some quick points in real life that make people go "oh ****, maybe he actually knows more than I do". People can get too comfortable in their political bubble.
Those academic folks at the University know all. You'd be wise to listen to them.

Agreed. That master's degree is proof that you've mastered the entire universe.

I might have brought this up awhile ago, but I was talking to a girl who brought up climate change and I said something like "Yeah, but everything is so politicized that it's hard to know which info is true and what's being used to push an agenda."

...you should have seen her face. It was like I insulted her religion or something. Then she started talking down to me like I was ignorant, so I casually mentioned that I have an environmental studies minor and she got very quiet.

It's just funny because I view my degrees as pieces of paper I had to get, and everything I actually know that's worth anything came after college. She viewed my stupid piece of paper as a reason to take me seriously.

I'm neither pro or anti Trump, but most people assume I'm whatever they are. I blend in well, I suppose.

I agree. I have lost a liberal friend who lost her ***** when she asked who I voted for. She couldn't believe a highly educated woman would actually do such a thing. I suppose she forgot that my prior job background was working in male-dominated blue collar occupations, so I understand, and have empathy for those in flyover country.

What many liberals miss is that their "holier-than-thou," "we know what's best for the country," look down their noses at those they disagree with attitude, is precisely what motivated many Americans to vote for Trump. And clearly many continue to feel that way, e.g., Congresswoman Hirono's remarks about democrats being so intelligent that they have a problem connecting with "real" Americans, smh.

Anyway, it's hard to understand why an almost entire political party refuses to accept Trump is President, and seems to be hell bent on bringing down our country with their hatred instead of working with others to move in a positive direction.

I have no idea what people assume about me and don't care. My brother whose an avid Trump supporter has told me on numerous occasions that he forgets that I'm a democrat. I think he just can't understand it and tries to forget about it. He can't wrap his head around it he's a democrat hater but he loves his big brother and I don't fit any of his stereotypes about Democrats. LOL go figure.

I'm white with blue eyes with a Christian heritage. Shocks them when they find out that I have a brain and reject the GOP love fest with the Kremlin.

Ditto.

As I've stated, my background is 33 years in blue collar male-dominated occupations. After a train accident in 2003 (I was a Locomotive Engineer) and after I finally was on my feet again health wise, I entered college when I was 47 for one reason: I was climbing the walls and college offered an avenue to exercise my brain. So many people believe that if someone doesn't have a formal degree, they're dumb as dirt.

I was an intelligent individual prior to school, not after. I simply learned new things, thats all.

Probably, no one would assume I'm a republican or a trump supporter because I live in a very liberal city. I am a republican and did vote for Trump.

do you stereotype people, cali? How do you feel when people stereotype you for being a black woman?
