Yep, there's no real difference between the Nationalist Socialists of Germany (AKA Fascists), Communists, and our Alt Left movement...they all want to have centralized control over speech, property, liberty and life. On the other hand, Right Wing Populism believes in the power of the individual, the exact opposite of the Nazis.
Yep, the left wants to ban/grab guns, too, just like the Nazis.
Still, right-wing populism can easily slide over into fascism - usually without the populists even noticing it.
If it starts spewing contemptuous stigma at certain unpopular segment of the population (if not seen a danger, then as with some other distasteful trait), that's when we should call it out, tell them to cool off with the disgust, even if not hatred. For example -- calling "those" people "worthless", "traitors", "a waste of oxygen", character attacks, contempt for anything they see as weak or weird or different, and so forth.
Personalized attacks on the press, education, cultural institutions, and certain prominent politicians, also another warning sign.
Promoting that kind of stuff with a cocky macho spirit, betraying kneejerk glorification of social dominance skills above all else. Yet another such sign. Definitely a warning sign if the demagogue's supporters think define leadership primarily in terms of asskicking skills (read: bullying and demeaning the opposition).
Disregarding the rule of law, or supporting changes in the law merely for benefiting the POTUSs (and his supporters) own convenience regardless of how damaging the consequences for others, also a warning sign.
On the cultural side of things (politics totally aside), firm faith in the rightness of traditional gender roles - a man should be "manly", a woman should be "feminine", etc. -- especially if they see this "manliness" mainly in terms of social dominance skills. Also going along with this is contempt for the weak, timid, strange, or people with obvious lack of social or thinking skills (i.e. ableism to a toxic degree; usually excused by some kind of vague appeal to nature").
So while right wing populists may or may not be fascists, they certainly kick open the door to fascism.
This mindset fits in better within the state pen than it does with actual believers in democracies, republics, or whatever you care to call them.
Yep. Populism is a way to get into position to push your actual agenda. In Hitlers case it was full blown military dictatorship with holocaust, world domination etc other atrocities. Trump does not seem to have any end goal, so he just fumbles around and counts on getting enough support from a divided population to somehow make it through his term.

Nazis put a rifle in every man's hand and taught them how to use it. As for civilian gun ownership, they loosened the gun restrictions somewhat from what we imposed on them via treaty of versailles.
Fascism is the alliance of government and corporations. The German war machine was made possible by the private industry. If you're trying to tie Trump to Fascismsomewho you're failing miserably. Trump goes at odds with the Big Business every day. Big Business and Democrats are in bed big time.

It also included the creation of a scapegoat: the Jews. Take a look at the propaganda posters and literature of the time. They portray the Jews as rich, greedy, slave drivers. That's a theme very common among the left-wing in the US: hating the rich because they're prosperous.
Hitler hated the Jews because, as a group, they tended to be disproportionately more prosperous than the rest of German society, and Hitler didn't think that was "fair." Sound familiar? That's a very left-wing concept. Remember Occupy Wall Street? That was motivated by the same kind of hatred of the prosperous as motivated Kristallnacht, in which Jews' businesses were vandalized and looted.
Hell, the left-wing in the US still loots and vandalizes businesses whenever they're throwing a politically-motivated temper tantrum. And those incidents have increased the past several years.

I have never seen anyone so opposed to free press and free speech as leader of our Right Wing populist, Donald Trump and his loyalists. They also believe in government controlling and taxing imports and other aspects of the economy, and denying government services from people in order to extort more money from the taxpayer. That's pretty far from believing in the power of the individual. More like having power over the individual.

Today we have the RW paint latino immigrants and muslims as scapegoats. They are coming here to kill, rape and rob us and take our jobs, bring diseases etc.
The "left hates the rich" is pure RW propaganda which is used to brainwash the uneducated. Nor many buys it anymore.
And... um... wouldn't a stormfronter celebrate the Nazi's scapegoating and treatment of the Jews instead of criticizing it? Critical thinking is NOT your forte.
Stormfronters are right wing, and yes, scapegoating is their hobby.

I quote your post hoping that some of the many posters who don't know what fascism is will read it. They probably won't, but hope springs eternal.
Control of corporations was perhaps the biggest key element of Mussolini's program. Mussolini coined the term 'fascism.' He created a government body to micromanage Italian corps. This is the opposite of what Trump has been doing in his record pace of deregulation.
