So it has come to this: The president of the United States was asked over the weekend whether he is a Russian agent. And he refused to directly answer....
The White House has begun recruiting soldiers. The new White House counsel, Pat Cipollone, has hired 17 new lawyers, according to The Post, as he prepares for a barrage of subpoenas from House Democratic committee chairmen. But Mr. Trump’s inner circle has shrunk, and he has fewer advisers around him whom he trusts. His White House chief of staff is still serving in an acting capacity, and the West Wing is depleted by the shutdown. As he himself wrote on Twitter this weekend, “There’s almost nobody in the W.H. but me.â€
We're at the point that they don't care about democracy nor its results.
They would do away with it if they could, even if it meant disenfrachising the other half of the nation. This type of assault is not far away from that.
In the next election, the conservative base may as well ask the administrative state and its associates (to include the FBI, the National Security State, the CIA, the DOJ, the Federal Workers Union, and the progressive base) who it will give its blessing to as the conservative opposition candidate; because they will obviously try to take down anyone else by any means necessary. The people's choice apparently has become irrelevant.

If by "deep state" you mean those who do not want a fascist government, believe in our Constitution, believe that the power lies with the people not with demagogues and wannabe despots, then yes, the deep state is prevailing and will not let America fall to a strongman in the likes of Putin or Kim, both of whom Trump seems to think are good guys, ones to model his presidency after.
