If everyone moves to low cost areas, they end up becoming competitive and high cost. Arizona used to be cheap if I recall. I don't know what is going to happen to those who can't keep up, people on fixed incomes, etc... there will be no where they can afford to go.

Tucson, Yuma, and Cochise and Mohave counties are still cheap; because there aren't any jobs and hence they aren't seeing the in migration of people.

Phoenix is expensive now because it's the only viable job market in the state. And Sedona, Prescott and Flagstaff are expensive due to retirees being able to pay more than locals for housing

There used to be so many more options, it is kind of scary. People moved around for jobs but the housing near the jobs wasn't out of reach for those workers. Techies in Silicon Valley having to live in tiny pod apartments or vans is ridiculous. The lower level people must live under the road in a sewer grate like Pennywise the clown.

You can technically still find $700/month apartments here, but they are in crime ridden gang neighborhoods that most people will pay more than they should to avoid having to raise a family in

Where does education stop? When does a child stop being a child?

There was a time in this country when free education for all wasn't done, and a time when anyone could marry a child who was 12.

As time passed, we Americans decided free education for all was desirable for the nation's best welfare. And as time passed we also decided an aribitrary age when a child became a legal adult. For the nation's best welfare.

Over time, both changed several times. Because American's thoughts about both evolved and changed. It was decided a 5th grade education wasn't enough any more.

And though a legal adult at 18, a young person was still too young to drink alcohol. Or vote.

Even though only a year before, a 12-year-old kid could walk into a bar and guzzle all the beer he could afford. As a legal adult.

And then, we decided 18 was, suddenly, old enough to vote, but still too young to drink.

What happened? Opinions changed with the times, and the laws followed them. It's still happening today.

Most of our laws regulate our society in the ways we want. As times change, so does our society, and the laws will follow, just as they always have.

If it takes college to keep our young competitive in a new century, we will get college for all. Because it is in our nation's best welfare to offer it.
