As a very conservative Republican, I believe Trump will appear correctly in history books as having been impeached, however, now there will be a big asterisk next to it, like their used to be next to Johnson's, except they don't teach about that one any more.

That asterisk will be there for certain as a question of whether he was legitimate in the first place.
WOW. McConnell get's lets the Democrats know who's boss. Nancy has 25 days, to turn over the articles. I believe that's up next week.
So in the history books Trump will never have been impeached.
He's been impeached in the House, the votes have already been counted. That cant be changed. Sit on the articles and just acquit him in the Senate. He's still been impeached in the House.

Unlike all the other impeachment attempts, the House never delivered it to the US Senate. He wasn't impeached.
And apparently the Senate has had enough of the crazed House Democrats and have moved to put a Constitutional end to it.

Yeah Yeah. And so was Andrew Johnson, over a law later declared unconstitutional by the SCOTUS. And so was Bill Clinton. His approval ratings went up after his impeachment.
Impeachment is a nuclear option. The party that uses it as a partisan weapon will always find that it backfires on them.
The unwise impeachment of Andrew Johnson (who was a horrible president) probably set back the process of reconstruction by decades, ensuring continued suffering of freedmen through the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The only really successful impeachment effort in US history was of Nixon, and it was a decidedly bi-partisan effort. Clinton's impeachment had some small bi-partisan support. This one has ZERO.
If you don't like the occupant of the White House the solution lies in the ballot box, not impeachment.
