Well, I use gender neutral terms to avoid complications. See, I don't fall into the normal gay stereotype. Not feminine. No sense of fashion. Talk like a brute. It is exhausting to have to explain myself every time. And I don't want to lie and use she/her.
When I had to come out at work to defend against an inappropriate sexual advancement toward a female allegation, there were colleagues who were totally taken by surprise. Like I said, I don't fit into the stereotypical gay dude mold at all. Oh yeah, the charge was I took her out to lunch and it made her uncomfortable. Never touched her or said anything inappropriate. From my point of view, I invited her and she said yes. From her perspective, she couldn't say no because I was her boss. But instead of saying something to me, she went from zero to red alert.
Having to explain myself everytime I use him/he is exhausting. Gender neutral pronouns make things so much easier in life!
