The rest of the world is outraged that the New York Times along with a USA academic is calling the movie classic Mary Poppins racist. This because the chimney cleaners appear to be performing "black face".

Of course this is one reprehensible move by the NYT which the rest of the USA MSM isn't covering, but the rest of the world is.

Mary Poppins is branded racist by US academic over famous rooftop scene because when she gets covered in soot she 'gamely powders her nose and cheeks and gets even blacker'

It has more to do with the derogatory language in the book than the actual soot.
