Well comedians love to live on the edge, in terms of their stage acts. It's all very funny until... it's not. As someone who is 60 years old, I feel that blackface isn't appropriate in current society. Maybe in a hundred years, no one will care because everyone on the planet will be brown skinned. But I wouldn't shun someone automatically just because they were in blackface years ago for a costume party or a stage performance.
Well, she is a white woman who darkened her skin and wore a wig in order to look like a tribal African woman... so she didn't use black shoe polish or soot to make her skin literally black... but it actually is more offensive that in trying to look like an "African queen", she chose to be a light skinned aka biracial black woman. In other words, her interpretation of a beautiful black woman is a very light skinned black woman.
I can't stand Joy Behar, but what she did is not "blackface."
However, As with all things regarding race, the media and liberals are expanding the definition of “blackface” to the point where the term is unrecognizable. Let's see how the media make excuses for her. Oh, I know how, just say, this is not blackface, and forget about it.
Imagine if she was a conservative woman, all hell will break loose.
If we are going to go there, why isn't it cultural appropriation when blacks straighten their hair or dye it blonde, bleach their skin or have plastic surgery to make their noses slimmer?.....and, why aren't they shamed for not embracing their natural look?
As far as I am concerned, if a black person wants to wear a "white" hairstyle or a white person wants to wear a "black" hairstyle, etc., why should anyone care/what difference does it make?

Whoopie missed several shows before this was brought back up because she is sick, nothing unusual about that, it IS the middle of cold and flu season.
I didn`t know that Behar was an elected official representing people of all races. She should resign from her office and let her state have a special election to replace her.
It looks like many of the dancers and contestants with spray tans on Dancing With The Stars......so to be consistent, all of them should be shunned and lose their jobs too.
IMO, Joy looks like an olive skinned Italian in that picture which should give her a pass since she IS Italian.
