Just finished ours this morning. I expected to get less back (we’ve always gotten a refund) because my income went up a little... but I was not expecting to owe thousands of dollars. My accountant said that the overwhelming majority of his clients owe considerably more.
I guess we’ll have to action off the Picasso or sell the villa in France. Am I winning yet?
The 1040 Simplified would just about fit on a postcard. I highly doubt Trump said that everyone would be able to use it. Fact is millions of people will be filing shorter and simpler tax returns which will also ease the burden on auditors. How many pages was your return a couple years ago?
Because middle class people are too stupid and lazy to file a long form.
Short form was 1040EZ, for simple folk. Now we all simple folk. I just lost a few IQ points filin' muh post card.

well actually the new 1040 is very short... 1/2 page
its up to you if you want to fill out all the "supporting" pages.... you could do your "civic duty" and pay "your fair share" of taxes on the face value of the 1040
or you can do what a majority of filers do,,, fill out as many forms as you can to pay the least within the law
Yes, richy rich rich. Anyone who ever filed a long form is rich, and cheats.
I have filled out the long form for over 40 years.... certainly not rich, and sorry but since I am able to read, I don't need to waste money on an accountant that I can NOT afford to begin with
Nice theory. We do support charitable giving. True charitable giving is when you donate simply because you care about a cause and not because you can get the feds to cover 25% of it in the form of tax deductions.
Yes, they are. I already gave you an example of how people treat federal income tax the exact same way in salary negotiations when considering whether to accept a job offer.
Great, and I already stated why that example is moronic. I wouldn't be proud of it.
I contribute to many charities. I've filed standard deduction for years. Go figure.
