It took my friend 10 years to get a green card, he now has like what 5 years until citizenship. That’s with lawyer fees, tons of documents, waiting, limitations. It’s so unfair to legal immigrants.

this is what I don't understand..these illegals and their enablers want it to be given in a silver platter
I and my wife are immigrants too and they required us to pass IELTS, professionals sponsored by a company in order to get an immigrant visa
and yet some who just jumped over the fence don't need any of those
Not even a little! It's absolutely insane. CA would be in much better shape, and able to offer help to those citizens who need it, if we stopped thinking it's our job to save the world. IT IS NOT!!

^^^THIS. My Dad waited his turn to come here in the 70s. He learned English, made sure he knew the laws of the land, and waited his turn before moving here. It’s so mind-boggling to see what’s happening now. It’s also mind-boggling to see people actually trying to conflate the terms “immigrant” and “illegal immigrant,” portraying people who respect the laws as racist and xenophobic.

^^ Both of these. I also had the experience of knowing someone who came to America from what was then called Czechoslovakia in the early 70's. He worked with my late husband. He did everything required of him. He was ecstatic to become a full fledged U.S. citizen. And we were thrilled for him, too. A wonderful man who hasn't had to look over his shoulder and has made a wonderful life here.
I don't know if the laws in our country are too confusing or people are just too lazy now but it's sad to see what's happening here.
My in-laws were legal immigrants (from Brazil), and you never heard anyone rail harder on illegal immigration than they did. It IS unfair and wrong in so many ways.
They also came speaking no English and had to pick up the language on their own (no time or money for special classes), but they managed. They had choice words to say about immigrants who have been here for years and expect to be catered to in their native languages.
Oh, well that statement settles it then. Discussion over!
