Surveys consistently show voters support two main policies:
1) Better public benefits.
2) Lower taxes.

Any question posed to people at large which only asks for one half of this equation will receive a predictable response.

Do people want free healthcare? Yes.
Do people want lower taxes? Yes.

You need to ask about the tradeoffs at the same time to get a useful response.

Healthcare should be affordable but doesn't neccesarily have to be free.

Free isn't really free anyway. You pay for it one way or another. That's the part the Dems don't tell you about.

I think it should be a state issue myself.

They should continue Medicare, federal Medicaid block grants to states with no restrictions.

I certainly don't believe in Medicare for All, but I do believe in federal subsidies.

If I lived in a small state I think universal healthcare with federal block-grants could be done. In larger states like Florida, Texas and California universal healthcare is a fantasy.

The federal government should continue providing Medicare and they should do a per-capita block grant to states and they can provide their own health care expansions if want to.

Where is the country going to find free healthcare? Last I checked, hospitals aren't free, and doctors expect to be paid.

All "free" means is you won't be denied healthcare if you cannot afford to pay for it.

As to the OP question:
I think rich countries like the US have an obligation to make sure its citizens all have basic health care.

Of course, we should try to make health care more efficient and less expensive. Too many define "affordable" as "someone else is paying for it". We spend too much time arguing about WHO is going to pay the medical bill and not enough time on WHY the medical bill is so high.

The problem is that (some) people expect the government to make things cheaper. If you look at the history of government involvement, you have a better chance of seeing bigfoot riding a unicorn on a rainbow.

Capitalism is neither moral or immoral....if anything it is amoral, like algebra or mathematics.

Morality is a property of a specific human action with regards to some moral code or system.
Capitalism is an economic system for organizing some kinds of human action, usually dealing with buying and selling products. But it is not a specific human action itself...

^This is very true. The typical voter wants to have their cake and eat it too.....and because politicians are a reflection of the people they represent we get elected officials who never dare to confront the public about (our) incongruent desires.

Socialism is not the answer.

Just cut all the free stuff. The deadbeats will die off.
