Why is it that when liberals proclaim the greatness of socialism they always pick the handful of lily-white countries and never the dozens of black or brown countries? It’s surely not racism, is it?
Isn't it ironic that you complain that conservative organizations are redefining the word socialist while you and Bill Maher misuse (aka redefine) the word socialist?
I can move to any of those countries and privately open up my own means of production or means of distribution for just about anything. In fact, some of those countries are rated as being more friendly to private business than the US.
We are in agreement on the word socialist. Why argue?
There are no successful 100% pure capitalist countries. Pure capitalism is inherently unstable as it lurches from boom to bust and boom again. Unregulated banks and business, left to their own devices, always get greedy during boom times and get overextended on credit, until the inevitable crash that wipes everyone out.
The only proven successful economic system is the mixed economy: market-based economy with government regulation, government participation in the market, and a social safety net. All of the world's best economies are mixed economies, every single one. Pure capitalism, pure socialism, and pure communism are theoretical constructs that don't work in the real world.
Except every boom and bust was caused by government regulations.
That isn't true. The United States had a small government and unregulated banks in the 1800's and the economy went through numerous booms, busts, panics and depressions. The Roaring 20's were a time of laissez faire, when Coolidge said the "the business of government is business," and unregulated credit and borrowing was a major contributor to the Great Depression.
poverty = working a full time job yet unable to afford housing, food, and healthcare.
