A city probably should negate a whole state if that city has enough people, but in any case its not as if everybody in the city will vote one way and everybody in the farming state will vote the opposite, there will be supporters for both main candidates in both areas.

So farmers should get double votes? That doesn't seem to make sense, lots of people do useful things in an economy but you don't get extra votes depending on what job you do.

Liberty consists in the division of power. Abolishing the electoral college, Absolutism, in concentration of power. The Framers of the Constitution aimed to preserve your unalienable rights and mine by preventing the concentration of political power in the central government.
Perhaps they got it wrong on this one, they did get other stuff wrong too, constitutions can always be changed if they are no longer fit for purpose, that's what amendments are for.
