The EU has hit back at new U.S. proposals to target European goods with tariffs, following a World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling over subsidies for Airbus.
Trade tensions between the EU and U.S. flared Monday after the U.S. said it's considering $11 billion worth of retaliatory tariffs on a range of goods in response to illegal subsidies the EU granted to the aerospace firm.
Brussels signaled that it is ready to retaliate, if necessary.
The European Union is preparing retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. over subsidies to Boeing Co., significantly escalating transatlantic trade tensions hours after Washington vowed to hit the EU with duties over its support for Airbus SE.
The two sets of punitive measures are the latest twists in a 14-year-old dispute that the U.S. and EU have fought at the World Trade Organization, with each side accusing the other of illegally subsidizing their main aircraft makers. President Donald Trump’s administration on Monday said it would impose tariffs on $11 billion in imports from the EU because of the European aid.

The EU is all about protectionism, however the EU really needs to take power away from it's unelected leaders such as Juncker and Tusk and give it back to the properly elected national leaders.
A hard Brexit and a US-EU Trade War is something that should be avoided if the EU have any common sense left.
On top of this Trump could just withdraw a lot of US Forces from Europe, and the US could boycott NATO excercises if he so wanted, whilst Britain is also an important European ally in terms of defence and security.
So both are as bad as each other, and both should just promise to stick to WTO rules in the future and move on.
Well no.If the EU makes planes cheaper by way of a subsidy,it certainly doesnt call for Trump to tax anyone here. It is in fact an issue for EU members to address.
And it is also no excuse for Trump to grant a subsidy to any US co.
Canada already got thrown under the bus over this Boeing nonsense with that firm accusing Canada of subsidizing Bombardier in a particular segment of the aircraft market Boeing wasn't even building a plane to service.
It ended badly for Boeing as Bombardier sold that segment to Airbus......HAAAAR!
Now it's Europe's turn in the barrel. It's like living with a drunk uncle, you just never know when one of his benders is going to result in him pizzing on your mattress.
